“Pateticheskaya”

Who knew of a man,
That died so sad?
Yet we’re glad.
Not because he died, oh no!
It’s because the legacy that he left.
Even through the heft of distress,
His works,
It transcends the heavens.
The expressions
Of the man whose obsession for music,
Brings tears to the eyes.
Anyone who hears his creations,
They say it exceeds their expectations.

Born in the land of ice,
A family with children, seven.
His gift,
From heaven.
Discouraged to compose,
Encouraged to become a civil servant,
Yet, he stood, composed.
Attended to the conservatory,
Ascended to a musical genius.

However, he suffered sorrow for most of his life.
Never at rest, always hoping tomorrow would be better.
Lost his mother when young.
He smothered his hidden gender.
Kept on failing, unveiling unfavourable works.
Kept on prevailing, even while ailing,
Fighting times of unavailing.
This man unfailing, still
Made works, that have been loved for generations, and generations to come.

Two disastrous marriages, and
Too many people
Near to him,
Dear to him,
Passed.
Many severe blows to his fragile career,
Yet his passion for music,
His compassion for others,
And his unwavering mission to bring joy to others,
May make him amongst the greatest composers.
Not just by his works,
But by his unwavering soul to strive.
Not favouring to give up, declining the doubt from his mind.
It is this unwilling heart of his,
To keep on fulfilling his dream.
That he’s more than what you seem;
A man, supreme, and well-esteemed.
An influential composer.
As said by the man whom in music he pursued,
“In a word, there are many thorns, but the roses are there too”.

However, nothing lasts.
At fifty-three, he then passed,
Oh, how sudden.
Saddened the hearts of the people,
He departed,
Long gone by next dawn.
Yet, the cause,
Unknown.
He slept, making his last breath, on his own.
What truly happened?
We might never know.
All we do know,
Is that before he died,
He put his feelings inside,
Applied all his heart into,
His final departing work.
This final symphony,
Like an epiphany.
It is so emotional and moving,
So powerful and proving his love for music,
It makes people weep.
Its melody so deep, that
It moves the stars that shine.
Its tunes so depressing, that
It brings tears to ones eyes.
This symphony is his sixth one.
Affixed its name as “Pateticheskaya”.

Tchaikovsky said it was his greatest work.
